NEW YORK, NY | NOVEMBER 20TH, 2022 | BY ISAIAH PATE
Hailing from Chicago, the seven-piece indie rock band Ax and the Hatchetmen –
comprised of Axel Ellis (vocals/guitar), Kenny Olzewski, (vocals/guitar), Sal Defilippis (vocals/guitar), Hunter Olshefke (vocals/bass), Nick Deputy (drums), Phil Pistone (trumpet) and Quinn Dolan (saxophone) take on New York at the Mercury Lounge.
With just a small but growing discography, the boys already tell multiple stories ranging from love, heart break, loss, growing pains, and coming-of-age like scenarios. And this is evident when you see / hear them perform live. Ax and the Hatchetmen weave what feels like the biggest-warmest scarf around the crowd they are facing, pulling them into a loving embrace to empathize and release as one; as a family.
From their 2020 EP ‘Bear on the Roof’ songs like ‘Sleeping in My Jeans’ and ‘Goofy’ provide a soulful boost of energy, then to their newly released record ‘Utah’; Axel and his friends take you on a journey of discovery and self-reflection. The band is only just getting started on what already looks like a successful journey, bonded by music, and a blossoming brotherhood – Ax and the Hatchetmen are set to take on the world.
