Drenched in nostalgia, catchy choruses, and a sprinkle of humour, TV Girl dazzled Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall for the first of two sold-out nights in the city. The Los Angeles-based indie pop group knew exactly how to get everyone’s feet moving, packing a 21 track setlist that featured favourites as well as some deep cuts.
This was truly a performance that was fun right through to the end, and the light fixtures on stage resembling stained glass windows went perfectly in sync with their songs. There were many points where the crowd took over the singing, of which the group really showed appreciation for. Their sound, although well within the indie pop range, also features samples from songs from the 1960’s, and carries influence from other genres such as reggae. It is difficult to categorize them in one box, as they are continuously evolving with each release.
Speaking of which, this tour is in support of their latest record, “Grapes Upon the Vine”, their first full-length release in 5 years. They are roughly in the middle of their schedule, making a few more stops in the Midwest throughout the end of October, and resuming along the west coast in December.
