ANTONE’S | AUSTIN, TX | OCTOBER 5, 2024 | BY ELINA CARRASCO
New York post-punk band Geese took the stage at Antone’s for ACL’s Late Night Fest, Austin City Limits’ extended festival that spreads across the city’s beloved music venues. The night kicked off with Austin’s own Marry Cherry, who enveloped the crowd in sultry guitar riffs and bathed the stage in red light throughout their set. Marry Cherry effortlessly blends electronic synths and psych-rock, as showcased in tracks like “Knockout.” The audience trickled in, many of them ACL attendees who had braved the Texas heat and were catching Geese for the second time that day. Just past midnight, Geese took the stage and wasted no time getting to their striking jam session that made the late hour feel irrelevant. Frontman Cameron Winter’s untamed vocals cut through the haze of flashing lights; despite his shy demeanor and reserved body language, his voice commands the attention of everyone in the room and even passersby on the street. The five members oscillated between frenzied chaos and melodic euphoria so easily and as the night progressed, the crowd grew increasingly energized. Some fans screamed along during songs like “2122”, while others lost themselves in the immersive soundscapes heard in “Domoto” – both tracks off of their latest album release 3D Country. Geese left its mark on Antones with an unforgettable performance from a band that continues to push the boundaries of post-punk.
