While the main genres of music still stand confidently alone, every once in a while someone comes along and challenges those norms. Hawaiian artist Maoli is working to combine everything he loves about music into one. Last Sunday night, at Nashville’s Cannery Hall, he delivered exactly that to a roaring crowd of fans. The group takes influence from reggae, traditional Hawaiian sound, country, rock and much more to create a new beautiful sound that can’t easily be replicated. They came onto the stage with a booming introduction that set the tone for the performance that was to come.
The energy in the room was absolutely electric. With a huge group of diverse people, each individual came for a different purpose that night but came together to embrace the unity that Maoli’s sound creates. Joyous cries of encouragement rang out the entire performance embracing the band's Hawaiian roots. While listening, you could hear elements of so many genres coming into one. Maoli’s songs possess all the best elements of each told in their own unique way. Performing their version of country music to Nashville, who fully embraced it.
Maoli is currently touring around the United States and will be for the majority of the summer hitting every major city including their native state Hawaii. This show truly is the culmination of so many sounds and people that it is truly not one to miss!
