Jambaloo headliners MJ Lenderman and the Wind graced the stage at a full-capacity Tulips Fort Worth this past Friday. Following stellar performances by Denton’s Darling Farm and touring opener Wild Pink, MJ Lenderman and his band launched into fan-favorite “Wristwatch” and other gems from his most recent album, Manning Fireworks.
In his music, Lenderman wears his pain on his sleeve and turns it into something worth chuckling at. He captures the full spectrum of heartache with his lyricism but leans more toward a comically unserious tone—one that can only be achieved three beers into a weekend bender.
His performance at Jambaloo captured that essence exactly. The energy onstage was an infectious buzz of country-leaning alt-rock that spread into the crowd with ease. Even during the five-minute guitar feedback moment in “Bark at the Moon,” MJ Lenderman’s set was the perfect balance of reprieve and release—just what was needed at the end of the week.
