LOS ANGELES, CA | DECEMBER 9TH, 2023 | BY KELLIE CHEN

mxmtoon’s LA show was a beautiful, nostalgic, and heartwarming evening of Maia and her ukulele. The intimate setting of The Echo in Los Angeles in conjunction with a tour and setlist dedicated to revisiting her iconic and earlier EP, “plum blossom”, curated an unmatched personal and endearing show.

The show was filled with charming interactions between the crowd and Maia, friendship bracelets weaving through the crowds, and endless laughter, commentary, and wide eyes. The crowd surprised Maia with a curated fan project during her revisited version of “stuck”, a song exploring her duo identities and the inner conflicts and the struggles to understand her identity as bisexual and Asian American. The crowd held up colored cut-out hearts and shouted “you’re enough” as she sang. Maia was left in tears, restarting the song, and the room was filled with an unforgettable energy of closeness, comfort, and a beautiful intimacy.

Maia was an exceptional performer, her bright and cheery personality shining through in between each song, and curated a safe space for her listeners to build community and connect with one another and with her for an unforgettable experience.
