Nathaniel Rateliff's intimate performance at Bass Music Hall in Austin, TX was truly one that emanated from the heart and soul. With an immensely ardent voice and dynamic stage presence, Rateliff guided the audience from the first note to the final encore. The energy in the venue was palpable as he and his band delivered a powerful set that seamlessly blended folk, rock, and soul influences. The crowd enjoyed a musical journey primarily through his latest solo album, "And It’s Still Alright," written before the pandemic. Rateliff's performance showcased his versatility as a performer and his ability to connect with the audience on a profound level. He shared the stage with opener Kevin Morby and former Night Sweats band member Joseph Pope III. Rateliff dedicated the title track of his latest album to his late former producer, Richard Swift, sharing a vulnerable moment with the teary-eyed crowd. He revealed that when he wrote the album, he was in a time when he “could not accept loss as a human experience.” Amidst the pandemic, he questioned “how we can find joy and continue to go on and find purpose when everything is falling apart.” Rateliff beautifully expressed that “brokenness is such a part of the human experience and existence, but there is so much joy beyond all of that.” The combination of doleful and buoyant tunes, incomparable musicianship, and Rateliff's magnetic charisma sent fans home with a full heart. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to his music, Nathaniel Rateliff's solo live performance is not to be missed.
