REVIEW: Reneé Rapp releases deluxe version of EP “Everything To Everyone”
MARCH 1ST, 2023 | BY KAITLYN CUPELLI
The pop singer and The Sex Lives of College Girls actress added two new songs to the deluxe version of her debut EP; “Bruises” and “Everything To Everyone - Extended Version.”
Rapp is known for her killer vocals and honest, vulnerable lyrics. In “Bruises,” she sings about how easy it is for her to be hurt. Although she says she’s “down to be the joke,” she still feels the sting of people’s words and is metaphorically bruised by them. The self-deprecating lyrics “I take everything personally, I’ve always hated that about me” are similar to lyrics from another song on the EP, “Too Well”; “I get so sick of myself, can’t stop overthinkin’.’”
Originally a minute and eight seconds long as an intro, the extended version of “Everything To Everyone” is two minutes and forty-four seconds. With added lyrics such as “now I’m payin’ taxes so your expectations have gone up” and “now I play the actress, ‘cause you got me actin’ so grown up'' Rapp builds on a lyric from the intro of the song; “God, I hope that it’s over when I’m older.” Although Rapp has grown up, she still feels that she has to act older than she is due to the expectations of those around her. All she can do is hope that one day she’ll reach an age where she doesn’t have to be everything to everyone.
“Everything to Everyone” was initially released on November 11, 2022. It includes seven songs; “Everything To Everyone (Intro)”; “In The Kitchen”; “Colorado”; “Don’t Tell My Mom”; “What Can I Do”; “Too Well”; and “Moon.”
“Bruises” and “Everything To Everyone – Extended Version” are both great additions to an already incredibly strong debut EP. “Bruises” fits perfectly with the emotional tone of the album, while “Everything To Everyone – Extended Version” further fleshes out the message of the original song and introduction to the EP.
