On a beautiful Friday night, Rod Stewart brought his famous pop songs to Austin’s Moody Center. Rod Stewart is a British pop and rock singer known for his hits such as “Sailing” and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?” Rod Stewart started making music in the 60s and was a part of several well-known bands such as The Jeff Buck Group and Faces. After Faces stopped making music in the mid-70s, Stewart took on an insanely successful career. He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice and was listed in the top 20 of Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Artist.
Opening for Rod Stewart on his One Last Time Tour is the American rock band Cheap Trick. Cheap Trick is made up of Robin Zander (vocals), Rick Nielsen (guitar), and Tom Petersson (bass). They’re known for songs such as “Surrender” from their 1978 album Heaven Tonight and “The Flame” from Lap of Luxury (1988). The band performed an hour-long set and completely blew away the crowd.
At exactly 9:30, Rod Stewart took to the stage. With fierce energy, the 80-year-old musician sprinted to greet fans. Age clearly isn’t a deterrent for the lively star. During the show, Stewart had the great pleasure of performing with his daughter who lives in Austin, TX. Solo, Ruby Stewart covered Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” and together, the father and daughter sang “Forever Young” from Out of Order (1988). During “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” the entire arena jumped to their feet. Afterward, Stewart and his band played a few covers before closing with “You’re In My Heart (The Final Acclaim).” Fans knew to expect an encore as house lights remained off. Shortly, he returned to the stage. Stewart performed fan favorite “Hot Legs” to finitely close out the set.
