GALLERY: Hippo Campus

BOSTON, MA | JUNE 6, 2023 | BY TONY LAM

It’s the most incredible feeling in the world – listening to the shouts of a crowd screaming the lyrics to South as Hippocampus enters the stage, fog swarming the venue from behind them. Or, watching the swaying of entertained fans as they danced to their favorite songs played live.

Hippocampus, at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavillion, gave the venue a rain show to remember. It began with a 45-minute delay due to thunder, leaving the crowd waiting around: antsy, in anticipation. But it all proved worth it – that anticipation drove the crowd to scream even harder, to dance even harder. By far, it was one of the liveliest crowds I’ve ever seen.

Their setlist was incredible. Bad Dream Baby got the crowd lively, as it was one of the first three songs played. And oh it did its job – the bass seemed to shake the Leader Bank as the rain poured overhead. Suicide Saturday was something to remember: the whole crowd joined together and serenaded Hippocampus who watched in awe. Poems offered a feeling of pure euphoria that emitted from the stage. As lights shined and fog filled the venue, it left the crowd in awe.

Trust me when I say this: if Hippocampus is ever in town, buy those tickets. They’re a show worth your time.
