TULIPS | FT WORTH, TX | APRIL 18, 2024 | BY ELINA CARRASCO
Last Thursday in Ft. Worth, Texas, Tulips played host to a night of raw energy and emotional catharsis courtesy of the dynamic punk-rock group, Mannequin Pussy. Frontwoman Marisa Dabice, also known as Missy, dominated the room and oscillated between moments of vulnerability and ferocity. Backed by a tight-knit band, including bassist Colins “Bear” Regisford and drummer Kaleen Reading, the energy was palpable, driving the crowd into a frenzy from the first chord to the last. Tracks from Mannequin Pussy’s latest album release, I Got Heaven, were such a visceral expression of raw emotion, with lyrics that cut deep and riffs that lingered in the air long after the band left the stage. Tracks like "Loud Bark" and "I Got Heaven'' hit with a lustral intensity; while slightly softer moments where Missy whispers sweet nothings to the crowd, provided a brief respite for reflection amidst the sweaty chaos. With every tour date sold out on the I Got Heaven Tour, it was clear that audiences were hungry for that raw and unapologetic sound that this Philadelphia-based band brings to the forefront. As the band travels east with 18 dates left, Euphonic is privileged to contribute to what promises to be an iconic tour.
