TORONTO, ON | JUNE 14, 2023 | BY FABIANA MOREIRA

Wavves are that kind of band that when you hear the first few notes, it’s distinctly their sound. Led by Nathan Williams, the surf-rock-indie group set their sights on Toronto and brought a taste of California along with them last week to an eager audience. It felt like an unofficial early party for the summer solstice in a way, as their tunes really evoke that feeling of roasting out in the sun, windows down, and being carefree.

There was no shortage of excitement in the room as some crowd surfed throughout the entire set, with some misplacing a shoe or hat, and everyone helped each other out to ensure they got their respective items back. The band played through a varied mix of their 7 album discography, including tracks such as “My Head Hurts” and “Green Eyes”. They also played through a new unreleased song tentatively called “Busy Sleeping”, to which there was lots of buzz in the crowd who got to hear this for the first time.

If you are looking to catch Wavves, they are nearly wrapped up this leg of their tour, with a few stops in Texas and New Mexico, before heading back home to California. Definitely stay tuned to see if they announce another tour or two before the end of the year!
