From the second the lights went down and candles on the stage were the only thing to be seen, everyone in the audience could tell this was going to be a special show. Weyes Blood (a.k.a. Natalie Mering) played the first night of her “hometown shows” February 28th at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA. From the visuals alone, her show was stunning. From the gorgeous orange glow during “It’s Not Just Me, It’s Everybody”, to the glowing heart and angelic purples during “Twin Flame'', and especially the watery blues during “Movies”, the whole crew did not disappoint.
Most importantly though, the actual performance, Weyes Blood and her 4 bandmates know how to PUT ON A SHOW. The highlights especially being Natalies vocals. Her voice during “God Turn Me Into a Flower”, “Movies”, and “Hearts Aglow” in particular left me transfixed.
Overall a fantastic environment and a great way to kick off two "hometown shows". Do not sleep on Weyes Blood!
