Mac Saturn fans, the wait is over!
The rock and roll band from Detroit, Michigan, consisting of drummer Angie Coppola, guitarists Nick Barone and Mike Moody, bass player Jive Moses, and lead vocalist Carson Mac, recently released their new EP titled, ‘Until The Money Runs Out.’ The EP consists of five songs including three new ones titled ‘Ain’t Like You,’ ‘Plain Clothes Gentleman,’ and ‘Persian Rugs’ along with previously released hits ‘Mr. Cadillac’ and ‘Diamonds.’ Listening through the EP and seeing listeners' reactions, it was clear ‘Ain’t Like You’ immediately became a fan favorite. It’s a song fans have been waiting for since they performed it for the Detroit Music Awards earlier this year. It has the classic Mac Saturn up-beat and groovy vibes and I’ve found it is the perfect song to dance around to in your kitchen at 3am. Speaking with my friend Emily, she stated ‘Ain’t Like You” is her favorite off the new EP because “the song feels like someone who realized too late that they really loved someone and I think there’s something beautiful about that. Sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back to be able to really appreciate what you had. But it also feels like they’re telling the person what they love about them which is sweet.”
One song that surprised me in a great way was ‘Plain Clothes Gentleman.’ This song slows it down just a little as the band takes the EP in a different direction with a bluegrass track. What I love about this song is how the band really let the instruments speak for themselves. The simplicity of the song allows the listener to really focus and appreciate the talent of each musician. This song takes it back to the old American Roots music days with the bluegrass inspired acoustic guitar and drums along with the smooth, jazzy vocals which bring the Mac Saturn flare. My friend Sarah mentions her favorite song is ‘Plain Clothes Gentleman’ “simply because of the calm and relaxing vibe to it all. It reminds me of music we used to play around the campfire as a family, especially when we would go camping and I have nothing but positive memories with music that feels that way.”
The third new song on the EP ‘Persian Rugs’ picks the tempo back up right from the start with that classic rock style Mac Saturn does so well. While ‘Mr. Cadillac’ highlights the bass and ‘Plain Clothes Gentleman’ highlights acoustic elements, ‘Persian Rugs’ feels very electric guitar and drums focused which are the key components to a great rock track while keeping the Mac Saturn roots with Carson’s maracas. Speaking with my friend Emily who has seen them live, she says “you can really tell how much fun they have when performing this song […] especially Nick, Moody, and Jive playing their guitars and bass together.” This song will definitely make you want to go off on a rock star adventure driving a 1970s Cadillac Convertible through the desert outside of Vegas while your hair flies in the wind leaving the world behind you.
An impressive thing Mac Saturn has done has been their ability to dive into their own space in the music industry and rise in popularity with only having previously released the songs ‘Mr. Cadillac’ and ‘Diamonds.’ So, I expect this EP to expand their presence in the industry and catapult them even further as a band. As a fan of the band, all of my expectations were greatly surpassed with this EP and I’m very excited to see what the future holds for Mac Saturn!
